Buying a congressman is not something you just jump into. It can be pricey, and, unfortunately, there is, as yet, no return policy. You can’t even get House or Senate credit if you think you’ve bought a bum congressman. One way to minimize the risk is to talk to some of the congressman’s past owners. Did they get what they thought they were paying for? Would they purchase one again? Would they recommend the congressman to their friends and colleagues?

If the congressman you’ve got your eye on has been around for a while, one way to find out how right he’d be for you is to do some digging in his or her home district. Some prospective congressman-buyers don’t know this, but congressmen actually have something called “constituents,” which are people who live in the congressman’s home district. It’s possible some of these people are also owners of the congressman. For the most part, they’re not but often make claims on the congressman as if they were.
